It is not certain how long cold and flu will last and  how long the virus survives on surfaces, but studies released by the World Health Organization suggest that common colds and viruses may persist on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days.

How easily your common cold or flu spreads from person-to-person can vary. Some Viruses are highly contagious, like measles, while other viruses do not spread as easily. Another factor is whether the spread is sustained, spreading continually without stopping.
